Embedding a YouTube Video

If you have video that you would like to embed on your web page, you should first upload it to You Tube. The university communications office can assist in adding your video to the UW-River Falls You Tube site.

Use either the full-width container or the larger of the two side-by-side containers. Do not use the smallest container.

You Tube Insert Element

Click to insert a new element and choose Multimedia Elements > Youtube from the element gallery.

You Tube Element

Open a second window or tab in your browser and go to the UWRF You Tube site (linked above and also from our home page).

You Tube UWRF site

Load your video and look for the "v=" (without the quotes) in the URL.

You Tube V equals

Highlight everything after the v= and copy it (Ctrl-C). It might be quite long.

Note that if you have your own account and are logged in, that URL will have additional code which will not work. Make sure you are viewing your video as the general public would view it before copying the URL code.

You Tube Highlight Copy Code

Go back to your first window or tab and click the gear to enter the new data for your video.

You Tube Click Gear

Click New Data.

You Tube Add New Data

Paste (Ctrl-V) the portion of the URL that you copied into the Youtube Code field.
Leave the Screen Format at Standard.

You Tube Pasted Code

Your You Tube should appear. You may need to install a plug-in (Adobe Flash) in order to view it.

Submit the page and View as Published.
