How to Apply

Thank you for applying to the UWRF School Counseling Program! Please follow all steps on this page for a complete application.

 

Applications received and postmarked on or before October 1 will be considered primarily for the following spring semester.

Applications received and postmarked on or before February 1 will be considered primarily for the following fall semester.

Applicants are encouraged to check application status frequently by contacting Mary Maillette in the Admissions Office at (715) 425-3500 or graduateadmissions@uwrf.edu. Incomplete and late applications will not be considered.

Applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or higher. Applicants with GPAs lower than 2.75 will be considered in special circumstances. All application materials must be submitted as indicated in the chart below:

You may submit this application without payment at first, and all parts of the application below can be sent in separately or as a package. To be reviewed, all pieces must be received by the deadline, including payment.

Three letters of recommendation

Your letter writer must email directly as attachment to graduate admissions@uwrf.edu OR mail to Graduate Admissions (directly from letter writer) at the address below.

  • NO official ranking form, checklist, or waiver for letters of recommendation.
  • Good letter writers are those who can speak objectively to your potential- professors, work supervisors, colleagues.
  • Speak with letter writers ahead of time about why you want to become a school counselor and why you want to study at UWRF.
  • We look for evidence of academic skills, and/or skills in working with people.
  • We want to read about specific reasons you would be a good fit for this profession and this program.

Official transcripts from your undergraduate degree granting institution (required) and graduate schools attended (if applicable)

Your school should email electronic transcripts directly (many universities offer this option) to graduateadmissions@uwrf.edu OR mail directly to Graduate Admissions at the address below.

OPTIONAL: Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are not required but will be considered if official results are submitted.

Additional important application information:

  • A Graduate Admissions Office representative will create and organize a file of each applicant's submitted materials. However, it is the applicant's responsibility to monitor and ensure the completion status of her/his application (call 715-425-3500). Late materials will result in an incomplete file. Incomplete files will not be reviewed.
  • Final admission decisions are typically made within one month of the application deadline. Invited applicants are provided a specific date by which to notify the program of their intentions.
  • NOTE: The program faculty does not formally interview applicants. Prospective students are highly encouraged to schedule a campus visit, speak with a faculty member, or attend one of the department's open house events. Open House events include Q and A sessions with the faculty and current students. Contact the program director, Dr. Caroline Baker, for more details.
