Having numerous experiences related to your field will help you to compete with your peers and professionals with years of experience for desirable positions.

Student organizations

• While being a member of student organizations shows involvement, employers are especially interested in students who show initiative by helping with or leading in the coordination of organization activities.
  

Internships

• Internships through UWRF are coordinated differently within each college. Employers look favorably on candidates who have 2-3 internship experiences.
  

Summer, volunteer and part-time positions

• Use these opportunities to gain valuable experience in your field. Taking a lower wage to gain experience in your field will pay-off long-term and will give you a competitive edge for desirable positions upon graduation. Certifications and related skills

• Obtaining certifications and licensure in areas of expertise related to your field will set your knowledge and experience apart from other candidates. Seeking-out experiences that will add to your set of skills valued in your field are also important through clinics, seminars, and other outlets. For example, a teacher certified in CPR with experience coaching would be in high demand for a school district seeking teachers who can fill multiple roles.
