History Emphasis Requirements: 30 credit hours

A. History core: HIST 102, HIST 215, HIST 216 and HIST 485
B. U.S. history (300-level or above): two courses
C. World history (300-level or above): two courses
D. Environmental history: HIST 365
E. Elective (300-level or above): one course

Social Studies Requirements: 27 credit hours

A. Required core: BFSS 200 and BFSS 400
B. Distribution non-history courses: SOCI 100, POLS 230 or 114, POLS 260 and ECON 201 or 202 (micro or macro)
C. Electives: three courses

Education Requirements: 43 credit hours

A. Education: TED 120, TED 212, TED 252 (American Cultural Diversity), TED 414, TED 420, SPED 330 and TED 473/474 (12 cr. Total Student Teaching)
B. Block: TED 433, TED 463, TED 466 and BFSS 400

The Broad Field Social Studies (BFSS) degree is the preferred degree for secondary teaching in the area of social studies. This degree offers many options and great versatility. The program requires that the student have a concentration (a major) in one of the social sciences and then additional work in the other social sciences.
