UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN River Falls

University Staff Senate

Sue Watters

I guess you could call me a "townie", since I moved to River Falls in 1969. I met my husband Steve here on campus in 1975 where we danced in the Ballroom in Hagestad Hall (now Athletics), and went bowling in the room below.  He was hired in 1982 as the Food Science Plant Manager. With both of us having been UWRF students we now have a passion to support and encourage students we supervise and come in contact with.

I operated a licensed family daycare out of our home for 22 years. I came to the UWRF campus first as an LTE in January 2001, starting out in Purchasing and then to Public Safety. In October of that year I was hired by Career, Counseling and Student Health Services as a FTE and this has been a great fit for me and the office. My position serves as the primary office manager and administrative, clerical, and programmatic support for three separate departments:  Career Services, Counseling Services, and Health Services.

I enjoy participating in the planning and implementation of special projects, overseeing the daily operations of the office front desk workers (Information Specialists) which I hire, train, support, and supervise.  One of my favorite parts is the interactions with students, alumni, faculty, staff, company recruiters, employers, prospective students, and parents.

I also have the opportunity to work with some great young people, our future leaders, as the advisor to Campus Crusade for Christ and supervising a Destinations trip that partnered with Habitat for Humanity for a week. Other areas of community services have been: River Falls Community Food Pantry, Feed My Starving Children, Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry, board member of Our Neighbors' Place, Roadside Cleanup, Humanitarian Aid trip to Kenya-Africa and Monterrey, Mexico, and various involvements with our church family – First Covenant Church of River Falls.

We have a grown son and 2 daughters –all married, and four grandchildren, they all enjoy travel, photography, gardening, hiking and as much family time as we can get.

It is a privilege to be a member of the Classified Staff Advisory Council and work as part of a team to address issues and concerns on our campus and to further the University's mission and core values on its Pathway to Distinction.
