Blogs or "web logs" provide a space for students to reflect upon their learning, negotiate difficult concepts, and build upon a student's prior knowledge. Students are often encouraged to review and comment on the blog posts of other classmates extending ideas and challenging thoughts.

Blog posts are typically short, informal, and often controversial in tone. Blogs allow students to hyperlink to current resources available online, incorporate digital media including digital video, images, or audio, and comment on each others posts.
Blogs are used in a variety of contexts (business, news, etc) but blogs have a particular uses within higher education.
