LISTSERV Frequently Asked Questions

L-Soft LISTSERVUW River Falls utilizes LISTSERV by L-Soft for providing mailing list services.  LISTSERV simplifies management of mailing lists with a robust web interface and allows for opt-in subscription (subscribers do not need to have UWRF email addresses).

How do I access the LISTSERV login site?

The login site is for the campus LISTSERV is https://lists.uwrf.edu

You can choose the login link in the upper right corner, or the options link listed in the options dialog box below to login.

If you do not have a Falcon Account on campus you will need to create an account and create your own password. Once you have created your account check your email for a verification of your subscription and click on the link to login.

The lists that are currently displayed, are not necessarily YOUR lists...they are a list of the LISTSERV Archives (meaning all the lists that are configured for public archiving).

Authentication:
Username = your email address
Password = Falcon Account Password

How do I change settings and manage my list?

Upon login, the default display will appear as the List Management Dashboard. From this page you can search for and manage your lists.

To change settings and configure the list choose List Management > List Configuration and choose the tab area you'd like to work on:

You can also create your own preferences on how you'd like to receive email from your lists and how often, etc. Choose preferences in the upper right hand corner:

How do I add subscribers to my list?

Choose Subscriber Management from the List Management menu:

listserv_subscrib

On the Subscriber Management page, select the list you want to manage from the 'Select List' dropdown.  Use the appropriate tab to update your list.  Bulk subscriptions will require that you upload a plain text file (not a Word format or RTF document).

Alternatively, you can send an e-mail to listserv@lists.uwrf.edu with the body containing one or more lines like:

QUIET ADD LISTNAME emailaddress *

- QUIET is optional; if omitted, a welcome message will be sent to the subscriber
- LISTNAME is the name of the e-mail listserv
- * may optionally be replaced with the first and last name of the subscriber

How do I remove subscribers from my list?

Select Subscriber Management from the List Management menu:

listserv_subscrib

Select the list you want to manage from the 'Select List' dropdown.  Use the appropriate tab to update your list.  Bulk subscriptions may require that you upload a plain text file (not a Word format or RTF document) if you're not removing all subscribers.

Alternatively, you can send an e-mail to listserv@lists.uwrf.edu with the body containing one or more lines like:

DEL LISTNAME emailaddress

- LISTNAME is the name of the e-mail listserv

How do I prevent unwanted persons from joining my list?

Select List Dashboard from the List Management menu.

Locate the list you wish to modify in the list of your lists and click the Edit link in the Subscription column:

Now choose the option you'd like, By Owner or Closed:

Additionally, if you do not wish for the list to appear on the public list of LISTSERVs on this server, you will need to configure list security accordingly.  Click the Configure link under the name of your list on the List Dashboard.  Click the Security tab and set Confidential to YES.

How do I see who is subscribed to my list?

Click the View link in the Subscriber column corresponding to the list membership you want to see.

To receive an e-mail with a list of subscribers, send an e-mail to listserv@lists.uwrf.edu with the following in the message body:

GET listname (NOLOCK)

- listname is the name of the e-mail list

How do I unsubscribe from a list?

From the LISTSERV menubar, select Subscriber's Corner.  Click to check the box next to the list you want to unsubscribe from and select Unsubscribe from the selection list below the list of LISTSERVs.  Click Submit.

Alternatively, send an e-mail from the address you're subscribed as to listserv@lists.uwrf.edu with the following in the message body:

UNSUBSCRIBE listname

- listname is the name of the list you wish to unsubscribe from

How do I see what lists I'm subscribed to?

Log into the LISTSERV and click Subscriber's Corner in the LISTSERV menu.

Alternatively, you can send an email to listserv@lists.uwrf.edu with the following in the body:

QUERY *

What do I do if I receive errors or bounces?

Every email list manager faces the challenge of handling invalid email addresses or bounce messages from the list. Most of the time, the bounce message that you receive will indicate that the email address no longer exsists or that the server being sent to was unavailable.
