Test Scoring and Scanning is available through DoTS and is located in room 160 Davee Library. Through the use of an NCS Opscan 3 scanner, an NCS Opscan 6 scanner, a personal computer, software and a printer, a wide range of test scoring and data analysis services are available.
The scoring and scanning services described here are self-service in nature. You will be responsible for actually scanning the response sheets. The tasks themselves are very simple and no previous knowledge about computers, programming, or the operation of the scanning machine is needed. There is a manual by the scanner containing everything that you will need to know in order to use the service.
For those people who have never used the service before, you may contact DoTS for assistance in getting started. Once you have seen an initial demonstration and had your immediate questions answered you should have no problems performing your own scanning and scoring.
There are no charges for the use of any of the scoring facilities with the exception of the cost of the answer sheets which may be requisitioned from Central Stores. The cost of the answer sheets you requisition will be charged back to your departmental budget. For information on what forms are available please visit the NCS website.

If you choose to do this you do not need to use the computer. All you need is the stand- alone scanner - the Opscan 3 scanner. The student answer sheets together with a key sheet prepared by the instructor are fed through the scanner and the score is printed on the answer sheets. There are also other results sheets that can be fed through after the test has been scored.
NCS makes other forms - for example, there is one with 200 questions and 5 responses (A-E) for each question, and one with 40 questions having 20 responses (A-T) for each question. If you need these forms they can be ordered directly from NCS with a very quick turnaround time.
