Windows 7 Changes

Reload IconOur existing campus operating system, Windows XP, is over 10 years old and will no longer be maintained by Microsoft.  You can anticipate several changes with Windows 7.

secureComputer Reliability

Each computer upgraded to Windows 7 will be configured with standard permissions.  Standard permissions help prevent malicious software (malware) and spyware from being installed on or making changes to your computer without you knowing.  This arrangement helps to make the computer assigned to more reliable and stable.  With standard permissions, installing some applications will require the intervention of a staff member from Technology Services.

If the nature of your work requires that you to have elevated permissions to the computer assigned to you, please contact Technology Services.

Improved Desktop Interface

The desktop interface has been simplified to better manage common tasks.  There is a new search tool that makes it easier to locate applications, files, emails, etc.
