HRS and My UW System

University of Wisconsin System HRS Project

What is HRS?

The University of Wisconsin System's Human Resource System, or HRS, is a new integrated system for all human resources, benefits and payroll operations across all University of Wisconsin campuses. HRS will streamline the hiring process, as well as the paying of employees by integrating them into one system.

The HRS system is based on Oracle's PeopleSoft Human Capital Management suite. This modern system will help us standardize business practices, improve service to our employees, and ensure higher levels of data integrity in all our business practices and external reporting. It will consolidate hundreds of redundant campus systems into a single, reliable system, and provide employees with direct access to their own payroll and benefits information. The new system will also provide greater security for sensitive personal data such as social security numbers.

How will HRS affect all UW staff?

Although HRS will bring many changes to UW business processes, HRS will provide self service function to all UW staff, faculty, and student workers. Self service will enable all UW employees to perform business operations more efficiently and enhances business processes by transforming manual, paper-based processes into automated and online functions. By using self service, all employees can own and manage their paycheck and benefits information by performing the following activities online:

  • View Paycheck, Vacation Balances and Direct Deposit Information: Employees can view and print copies of their paycheck and vacation balance information online.

  • View and Enroll in Company Benefit Plans: Employees can view their current benefit selections, including dependant and plan information (e.g. medical, dental, and/or vision benefits coverage). UW employees can complete their benefits elections online using Self Service.

  • Report Time and Absences: Self service provides employees the ability to own and manage their time and absence information by enabling employees to submit their timesheets and absences. Approving managers will be able to review and approve their direct reports timesheets and absences.
