Students identified positive aspects of this placement:

  • There was so much to do at the site that I was not able to see everything I wanted to. (2005)
  • Get to be a support system for people. the whole office staff is very friendly to work with. You learn a lot about court proceedings. Also get computer experience from writing the letters. It is a very fulfilling internship. You are busy all the time. Get to read files that are full of information. (1996)
  • Supervisor was very helpful in presenting a wide perspective of the cj system. She sets up visits with other branches of cj system (sheriff's dept, probation/parole). Well organized office that is run very efficiently making it easy to learn. Everyone in the office is very fun, knowledgeable and helpful. (1995)

Students identified difficulties typical in this placement:

  • Some outside agencies were either not willing or unable to allow me to see what they do, especially Social Services. (2005)
  • It is sometimes hard to understand why people don't get out of abusive relationships. there are so many factors at work in this type of situation. (1996)
  • Amount of court proceedings depends on amount of chargeable criminal activities. So if no one is caught doing illegal activities, there won't be a lot of court proceedings. (1995)
