Assistant Director of Recreational Sports
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls, a member of the University of Wisconsin System, is located 30 miles from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul in scenic west central Wisconsin. Year around arts, cultural and recreational events are easily accessible. UWRF's 6,400 undergraduate and graduate students pursue degrees in four colleges: Arts and Sciences; Education and Professional Studies; Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Science; and Business and Economics. The Position:
The Assistant Director of Recreational Sports position reports to the Director of the Hunt Arena, Knowles Center & Intramural Complex. Recreational Sports consists of four main areas: Intramural Recreation, Club Sports, Kinni-Connections Outdoor Recreation, and the Hunt / Knowles Recreation and Athletic Complex. The Assistant Director of Rec. Sports will be an experienced professional in the field of Rec. Sports who demonstrates a commitment to a student centered approach to a campus recreation program and provides vision and strategic planning to its programs and services. The Assistant Director is charged with developing an expansive programming array that is reflective of the interests and trends of a comprehensive intramural, outdoor recreation & club sport offering. The Assistant Director has some shared facility management responsibilities, program support and game administrative duties for the Hunt / Knowles Complex.
In addition, this position requires strong communication skills, service oriented outlook, close attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people. This position works within a team atmosphere with a stewardship management style that values continuous improvement utilizing several student employees and Interns to oversee and administer UW-River Falls Intramurals, Outdoor Recreation, and Club Sports offerings. A flexible schedule is necessary, due to the nature of the events and activities that are programmed for the students. Evening and weekend hours are required.
The Facilities:
UW-River Falls is a beautiful spacious campus rich with green space and outdoor recreational opportunities. The Hunt/Knowles Complex includes an indoor ice arena, field house with a Mondo Super X Premium, six-lane 200 meter track, five Robbins Pulastic SP smooth surface tennis, volleyball, and basketball courts as well as an indoor climbing wall, equipment storage, athletic training room, six locker rooms, and laundry facilities. The space is utilized by the Health and Human Performance Department, Athletics, Recreational Services, student recreation, club sports and the community. The facility is also reserved for assorted concerts, sport camps, and other community events. The Intramural Complex consists of 19 acres of outdoor field space with 4 softball fields, and irrigated green space to accommodate football, rugby, lacrosse, ultimate Frisbee and soccer. Karges Center , consists of two hard wood courts, a swimming pool, dance studio and locker room facilities. The campus also has 6 outdoor tennis courts, paved and lit surfaces for basketball and four outdoor sand volleyball courts.
Qualifications (Required) :
- A four-year college or university degree is required with major course work in Recreation, Outdoor Recreation, Physical Education or closely related field.
- A minimum of two years experience working in Recreation, Intramurals, Outdoor Recreation or other related field
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Previous experience of supervision and evaluation of employees.
- Experience in maintaining facility files and records, preparing reports, and purchasing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of personnel and patrons.
- Knowledge and experience using commonly used computer applications. (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Internet Explorer, EMS Event Management Software, Corporate Time Scheduling software and Email applications)
- In addition, the successful applicant will have a demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student populations, the ability to contribute to the University's commitment to enhancing student awareness, an appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural heritages.
