Director of Development

The University of Wisconsin-River Falls, a member of the University of Wisconsin System, is located 30 miles from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul in scenic west central Wisconsin.  The University’s 6,400 undergraduate and graduate students pursue degrees in the College of Arts and Sciences; College of Education and Professional Studies; College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Science; and College of Business and Economics. The University provides an excellent environment for learning, emphasizing the importance of faculty-student interaction in classrooms, laboratories, academic advising, and co-curricular activities.  A favorable student-faculty ratio affords opportunity for meaningful interchange between faculty and students.  Teaching, research and community service are highly valued.
The University of Wisconsin-River Falls Foundation was incorporated in 1948 as an independent 501(c)(3) not-for-profit serving the University of Wisconsin-River Falls as an institutionally related foundation.  The Foundation’s activities include a comprehensive campaign, major gift program, annual giving program, planned giving program, corporate-foundation relations, research, and advancement services.

The Position:

The Director of Development is responsible for managing the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Foundation’s fundraising program and will work closely with the Office of University Advancement. The Director will also manage a portfolio of major gift prospects as part of a comprehensive campaign. The position reports to the President of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Foundation.  Compensation is based on experience and qualifications.

Position responsibilities:

  • Manage the fundraising program, staff, and budget.
  • Implement major fundraising initiatives and campaigns.
  • Cultivate, solicit and steward donors.
  • Identify and qualify prospects, developing timely and effective solicitation strategies.
  • Work with University leaders and staff, volunteers, consultants, and vendors on major fundraising initiatives.
  • Develop solicitation proposals, fundraising marketing materials, and fundraising presentations.
  • Develop fundraising achievement plans that include goals, priorities, outcomes, action steps, and timetables.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Foundation’s President.

Qualifications - Required:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • More than 4 years of demonstrated successful fundraising management and major gift experience; campaign experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, fundraising technology skills, and project development skills.
  • Ability to effectively work with major gift donors, fundraising volunteers, university leaders, advancement staff and corporate and community leaders.
  • Enthusiastic and motivated team member.
  • Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student populations and ability to contribute to the University’s commitment to enhancing student awareness and appreciation of diverse ethnic and cultural heritages.
