Assistant Professor-STEM and Diversity Recruitment

The Position: The Teacher Education Department at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in STEM and Diversity Recruitment, in teacher education to begin fall of 2008. This faculty member will work as a team leader to meet the two goals of the UW-Systemwide Teacher Education initiative: (1) Recruit and retain a diverse student body in Teacher Education, and (2) increase numbers of math and science teacher education majors.
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide academic leadership to meet the goals of the UW-Systemwide Teacher Education initiative. To meet the goals, approximately 75% of this position will be dedicated to providing leadership in nurturing and developing community college and P-12 partnerships; developing a recruitment and retention plan for diverse teacher candidates and teacher candidates in high need areas; developing an assessment plan to measure attainment of recruitment and retention goals; managing data collection, analysis and reporting; and maintaining a collaborative relationship and effective communication with the Teacher Education Department. Approximately 25% of the position (one, 3-5 credit class per semester) will be dedicated to teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses for preservice and in-service teacher candidates.

Compensation: Compensation is based on qualifications, including education and experience.
Qualifications (Requirements):
Education: Doctorate in Education or closely related field.
Experience in area of expertise: Prior experience in the classroom at the middle, secondary or higher education levels; knowledge and/or work experience in multicultural education; experience working with culturally and ethnically diverse communities; writing grants or resource development in support of academic programs and students.
Qualifications which may be considered an asset: Three years licensed teaching experience with urban and/or ethnically diverse learners; bilingual competence in English/Spanish or English/Southeast Asian language; prior experience in recruitment and retention programs; college teaching experience in a teacher education program or related field.
