Shared Inquiry Communities:
A Great Fit for These PE Teachers

Two physical education and health educators from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin found the Shared Inquiry Communities program offered by the University of Wisconsin-River Falls a great fit for their master’s degree goals.

Carol Sullivan and Debbie Erb were discriminating shoppers when it came to searching out a master’s program. Both are experienced teachers who were motivated less by the prospect of increased pay or career advancement than by the desire to revise and rejuvenate their teaching practices.

Lou Ling

Lou Ling: Student, Teacher and Learning Partner

Ling Lou is an English educator at the Zhejiang Education Institute (ZEI) located near the city of Shanghai, in the People’s Republic of China. In the spring of 2008, Lou completed his Master of Science in Education degree in Reading at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. He accomplished his program of study while working as a Chinese language instructor for UWRF.

Today, he is back at ZEI teaching English as a second language to college students. He has been a language teacher for about nine years and his wife teaches commerce and trade at another university in China.

We asked Ling to comment on the UWRF reading program and how he has used the skills learned here.

Early Childhood
Transition to Degree

To meet the growing need for preparation in early childhood education, the University of Wisconsin-River Falls has created a degree completion program that allows individuals with
an associate degree to complete their bachelor’s degree requirements via distance-learning courses.

Through articulation agreements with the Wisconsin technical colleges, UW-River Falls will accept the credits earned by their graduates and apply them toward the requirements for a bachelor’s degree and Wisconsin early childhood teaching certification (Birth - Age 8).
