Area Teachers Learn Advancements in Education TechnologyAs technology becomes prevalent in teaching and learning as well as everyday lives, passing that knowledge on to future teachers becomes a priority in the UW-River Falls College of Education and Professional Studies. Toward that aim, more than 100 K-12 teachers from Ellsworth, River Falls, St. Croix Central, Hudson, Somerset, Osceola, Prescott and other schools spent a day on the campus learning innovative ways to integrate technology into the classroom. The all-day workshop was held on November 10 in the Wyman Education Building. Presentations were given by teachers who have extensive knowledge in specific programs including: Inspiration, Kidspiration, SMART Board, PhotoShop, iMovie, as well as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. There were also presentations led by student members of UWRF’s Technology Leadership Cadre (TLC). The focus of the workshop is to help teachers use technology as well as help educate them on how to make it part of their students’ lives, says Mary Manke, assistant dean of the College of Education and Professional Studies. “This technology may take some time to learn, but it will allow students to learn in a way never thought possible.” Discover UEach summer, UW-River Falls offers a youth program for students in the St. Croix River Valley.
