Meet the Falcons

Ashley Adam
5-9, Freshman
Lino Lakes, Minn.

High School

Ashley Adam is in her first year with the Falcons after competing at Centennial, Minn., High School. Her most memorable tennis moment was when the high school conference championship match results rested on her No. 4 singles match. She prefers to play doubles and lists her best stroke as her backhand. Her tennis goals are to work on her one handed backhand volley and to improve her singles play. Her favorite tennis player is Andy Roddick. Her hobbies include listening to music, enjoying time with friends and reading. Her favorite musical group is Brand New. Her future goals are to become adjusted to college and work towards her career goals. She is majoring in English education.

Leah Baron returns for her third year with the Falcons. She finished with a 9-3 record at No. 4 singles last year. She placed fourth in the 2003 WIAC meet in that flight. She had a 4-5 record at No. 2 doubles in 2003. She prefers to play singles and lists her best stroke as her backhand. Her most memorable tennis experience was competing in the WIAC meet last fall. Her tennis goals include playing No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles this year and place in the top three at the WIAC meet. Her favorite tennis player is Andy Roddick and her hobbies include roller blading, movies and working out. Her future goals include teaching figure skating and to have a family. She plays forward with the Falcon hockey team. She is majoring in health & human performance with a minor in art.

Becky Briese returns for her second season with the Falcons. In 2003 she had a 10-1 record at No. 6 singles and was 4-2 at No. 5. She placed fifth in the WIAC meet at No. 6. At No. 3 doubles she had a 10-7 record. She placed sixth in the doubles flight at the WIAC meet. She prefers to play singles. Her most memorable tennis experience was watching the University of Minnesota men's tennis team compete against Penn State last spring. Her tennis goals are to play competitively and have fun. She is undecided on a major field of study.

Becky Brisendine is in her first year with the Falcon tennis program. She played at New London-Spicer, Minn., High School and her goal for the year is to make the team and continue to improve her game. Her most memorable tennis experience was earning a trip to the State tournament in her senior season after losing in the section finals the two previous years. She prefers to play doubles and lists her best stroke as her backhand. Brisendine's favorite player is Andy Roddick. Her hobbies include swimming and golf. Her future plans are to get a job and he happy. She is majoring in accounting.

Megan Farr is one of the team's seniors in 2004. She prefers to play doubles and lists her best stroke as her forehand. Megan's most memorable tennis experience was winning the deciding point in a high school match against a conference rival. Her favorite player is Lindsay Davenport and her tennis goals are to go to Madison to compete in the WIAC meet and travel to all of the away meets. Her hobbies include tennis, reading, working out, music, movies and friends. Her future goals include finding a job that she loves, have a family, enjoy life and continue to play tennis. She is majoring in business administration and health & human performance.

Stephanie Harris joins the Falcons for her first season after competing at St. Anthony Village, Minn., High School. She prefers to play singles and lists her best stroke as her backhand. Her most memorable tennis experience was winning a consolation title in a high school tournament. Her favorite tennis player is Andy Roddick and her tennis goals are to become mope aggressive at the net and to improve her serve. Her hobbies include tennis, softball, playing the guitar and going to concerts. Her favorite musical groups are Taking Back Sunday and Yellowcard. Her future plans include moving to California. She is majoring in journalism with a minor in Spanish.

Jen Kersten is in her first year with the Falcons after competing at Eau Claire Memorial High School. She prefers to play singles and lists her best stroke as her backhand. Her most memorable high school moment was beating a Stevens Point opponent (4-3) in her junior year at the WIAA team state tournament. Her favorite tennis player is Andy Roddick and her tennis goals are to improve her game skills and mental toughness. Her hobbies include running, shopping and reading. Her favorite musical groups are the Doors and the Beatles. Her future goals are to own a business and be a successful businesswoman. She is undecided on a major field of study.

Megan Knobloch returns for her third year with the Falcons. She finished the 2003 season with a 10-8 record at No. 3 singles and she played third at that spot at the WIAC meet. In doubles play she had a 6-11 record at No. 2 and her team placed fourth at the WIAC meet. She enjoys playing both singles and doubles and lists her best strokes as her forehand and serve. Her most memorable tennis experiences were going to state in her junior year in high school and the 2003 WIAC meet. Her favorite tennis players are Andy Roddick and Justine Henin Hardenne and her tennis goals for the year include working on her overhead, the approach shot, and to be a more consistent player. So is co-captain of the Falcon tennis team. Her hobbies include figure skating and spending time with family. Her future goal is to be a good school teacher. She is majoring in elementary education with minors in reading and language arts.

Emily Maurer is in her third year with the Falcons. In 2003 she finished 1-0 at No. 6 singles. She prefers to play doubles and considers her forehand volley as her best stroke. In doubles play in 2003 she had a 1-0 record at No. 3 and was 0-1 at No. 2. Her favorite tennis player is James Blake and her most memorable tennis experience is going with the team to watch the Battle of the Ages tournament at the Excel Center last year. Maurer's goals are to become a great doubles player, especially at the net, and to become a stronger singles player. Her hobbies include horseback riding and her favorite musician is Keith Urban. Her professional goals are to become a therapeutic riding instructor and to own race horses. She is majoring in equine science.

Maite Oyarbide-Sanchez is in her fourth year with the Falcons. She had a 0-1 record in 2003 at No. 6 singles. Her most memorable college moment was in her junior season at Madison Memorial High School when her doubles team won a final match that helped the team win first place in a tournament. Her tennis goal includes playing in the starting six lineup throughout the 2004 season. Her hobbies include drawing, painting, photography, playing the flute, tennis, bicycling, traveling and dancing. Her future goals are to become an art and flute teacher and continue to perform in concerts. She would also like to attend Juilliard. She is majoring in art education, music and French.

Sarah VandenHoek returns for her second season with the Falcons. She finished the 2003 season with a 3-1 record at No. 6 singles. In doubles play she had a 7-6 record at No. 3 and a 1-1 record at No. 2. At the WIAC meet her No. 3 team placed sixth. She prefers to play doubles and lists her best stroke as her backhand. Her most memorable tennis moment was eating before a match and then getting sick during the competition. Sarah's favorite tennis player is Andy Roddick and her tennis goal is to help the team finish in the top three in the WIAC. Her hobbies include tennis, shopping and watching movies and her favorite musical group is New Found Glory. Her future goal is to won a business with her brother. She is majoring in business.

Amber Weissinger is in her final year with the Falcons after competing at Eau Claire North High School. In 2003 she had a 4-2 record at No. 4 singles and was 8-4 at No. 5. She finished the year with a 12-6 overall record and placed third at No. 5 singles at the WIAC meet. In doubles play she was 1-5 at No. 2 and 2-1 while playing at No. 3. Amber placed fourth at No. 2 doubles at the WIAC meet. Her favorite musical group is Rascal Flatts. She is majoring in business with a minor in marketing communications. So is co-captain of the Falcon tennis team.
