| Rudiger Places Second at No. 6 Singles at WIAC Tourney
Oct. 26, 2008 Mindy Rudiger finished second at No. 6 singles at the WIAC Tournament held Saturday and Sunday in Madison. In the first round she picked a 6-4, 6-1 win over Emily Oxton of Stevens Point. She made quick work in the next round, winning 6-1, 6-0 over La Crosse's Megan Fallon. Jenny Woyahn defeated Rudiger 6-3, 6-2 in the championship match for first place. At No. 1 Kathryne Ostrowski defeated Rachel Benn of UW-Stevens Point for a huge upset. Ostrowski rallied back from dropping the first set 6-3 to capture the first round win 3-6, 7-6, (7), 6-4. In the second round she fell to third seeded Allie Hinman of UW-Stout, 6-0, 6-0. In the match for third place she lost to La Crosse's Kelly Kuether, 6-1, 6-3. At No. 2, Cassie Wood was upset in the first round by fourth seed Megan Born of UW-Eau Claire 6-3, 6-1 and had a second round bye. In the fifth place match, Wood fell, 6-3, 6-1 to Mandy O'Keefe of UW-Stout. Just behind her at No. 3 was Katie Anderson who dropped her match against Katie McDonald 6-0, 6-1. Jodie Czech of UW-Stout defeated Anderson 6-0, 6-1 in the following round. At No. 1, Ostrowski and Rudiger fell to Jenna Abbott/Emily Bostwick of Oshkosh 8-5 and at No. 2, Anderson and Naomi Wolff fell 8-1 to Emily Riordan/Kaylei Sorensen of Stevens Point. As a team, the Falcons finished with four points. Whitewater won the tournament, its ninth overall, with 21 points. UW-Whitewater won all six singles titles and all three doubles crowns. It has only been done once before by Marquette University when it was part of the WIAC in 1982. |

| Falcons Drop Season Finale
Oct. 18, 2008 The Falcons were defeated 9-0 Saturday morning at home against UW-Whitewater in their final match before the WIAC tournament. The conference leading Warhawks had little trouble, dominating the Falcons and not giving up a single set. Mindy Rudiger played a tough match at No. 6, falling 7-5, 6-2. Katheryne Ostrowski played picked up games at No. 1, but lost 6-4, 6-3. In doubles play, the Falcons dropped all three doubles points. Ostroski and Rudiger fell 8-4 at No. 1. At No. 2 Katie Anderson and Naomi Wolff fell 8-2. Cassie Wood and Stacia Kozel forced a tie breaker, but were defeated 7-4. The Falcons, have finshed the 2008 regular season with a 7-8 overall record and a 1-5 conference record. Now the Falcons will prepare for the 37th WIAC tennis tournament at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison October 25 and 26. The tourament will decide all six singles and three doubles champions as well as one overall team champion. The team title will be determined by using a combination of the regular season dual meet standings and the conference championship results. First round action will get underway at 12:40 p.m. on Saturday October, 25. |

| Falcons Fall to UWLC
Oct. 8, 2008 The Falcons fell to UW-LaCrosse Wednesday afternoon, 9-0 at the Falcon tennis courts. Cassie Wood was the lone Falcon to win a set on the afternoon, but lost in tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-1, (8-10) at no. 2. At No. 5 singles, Brittany Bonine played competitively but lost 3-6, 5-7. Mindy Rudiger forced a super-tiebreaker in the first set but went on to lose 6-7 (3-7) 3-6. The No.1 doubles team of Kathryne Ostrowski and Rudiger lost a close match 6-8. Katie Anderson and Naomi Wolff fell 2-8 at No. 2 and Wood and Bonine fell 3-8 at No. 3. The Falcons, have dropped to .500 this season and are now 7-7 overall with just one win in the WIAC, 1-4. The Falcons look to rebound on October 18 as they host UW-Whitewater in their final WIAC match of the season. Action will get underway at 9:30 a.m. at the Falcon tennis courts. |

| Falcons Fall to Central
Oct. 4, 2008 The Falcons faced Central College first and dropped a close contest that was decided by four tie breakers and close doubles play. In singles, Cassie Wood won her sixth straight at No. 2 with a convincing 6-2, 6-1 win. Katie Anderson slipped in her second set but pulled out a long tiebreaker to win her match at No. 3 6-2, 1-6, (15-13). Stacia Kozel, at No. 5, and Mindy Rudiger at No.6, both forced tiebreakers after being down one set. Kozel fell 10-7 and Rudiger 10-6 in the tiebreaker. The No. 3 doubles team of Wood and Brittany Bonine converted the first doubles match for the Falcons in two matches with their 9-8 win. Ostrowski and Rudiger fell at No. 1 8-6 and at No. 2 Anderson and Naomi Wolff fell 8-3. The Falcons are currently playing Luther College. Results soon to follow. |

| Falcons Drop Second Straight
Oct. 4, 2008 Cassie Wood won her fifth straight match at No. 2 singles and Mindy Rudiger her fourth straight at No. 6, but it wasn’t enough as the Falcons fell 7-2 Friday afternoon on the road against St. Olaf. The Falcons tallied their two points on the afternoon in singles action. Cassie Wood improved to 8-2 this season at No. 2 singles with her win 6-2, 6-3. Mindy Rudiger added another win to her record and is now 4-1 at No. 6 this season with a 6-2, 6-1. The two have scored the only points for the Falcons in their last two matches. For the second straight contest, the Falcons failed to convert in doubles. At No. 1, Kathryne Ostrowski and Rudiger fell 8-4. Katie Anderson and Naomi Wolff fell 8-4 at No. 2. Wood and Stacia Kozel dropped a close 8-6 decision in the final doubles spot. The Falcons are now 7-4 overall and 1-3 in the WIAC. Tomorrow, the Falcons will continue their road trip to Luther College of Iowa. The Falcons will face Central at noon and Luther at 3 p.m. |

| Falcons Fall to Blugolds
Oct. 1, 2008 The Falcons dropped their third WIAC match in four tries this season 7-2 at home against Eau Claire. Cassie Wood scored one of two singles victories for the Falcons in the No. 2 spot forcing a tie breaker and eventually winning the match 2-6, 6-4 (10-4). Also winning in singles was in the No. 6 spot was Mindy Rudiger in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. Katherine Ostrowski came close in her match at No. 1 but fell 6-3, 6-4. The Falcons failed to convert a doubles match for a point on the afternoon. Ostrowski and Rudiger fell at No. 1, 4-8. Katie Anderson and Naomi Wolff were defeated in their match at No. 2, 1-8. Wood and Stacia Kozel dropped their No. 3 match 4-8. The Falcons, have dropped to 1-3 in the WIAC and are 7-3 overall. Next, the Falcons kick off a weekend road trip that will take them to St. Olaf (Northfield, MN) Friday afternoon and to Luther College of Iowa where they will play Luther at noon and Central at 3 p.m. Saturday. | Falcons Take Two
Sept. 27, 2008 The Falcons extended their winning streak to three with two 8-1 wins over Ripon and Hamline Saturday afternoon at home. In the morning match, the Falcons swept the singles competition with three matches going into tie breaker. Cassie Wood won 3-6, 6-2, (10-7) at No 2. At No. 3, Katie Anderson won her tie breaker 3-6, 6-3 (11-9). Stacia Kozel won her tie break match 2-6, 6-1, (10-6). Katherine Ostrowski won her No. 1 singles match 6-3, 6-0, Lindsay Gillman won 6-1, 6-2 in the four spot, and Britney Brouwer won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6. In doubles action, the Falcons took two of three from the Pipers. Naomi Wolff and Anderson won their match at No. 2 in a close 8-6 match. Wood and Brittany Bonine won at no. 3 8-3. The Falcons took five points in singles play, all in straight. sets. Ostrowski won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1. At No. 2, Wood won 6-0, 6-0. Anderson had a 6-3, 6-3 decision go in her favor at No. 3. Kozel won her match 6-3, 6-1 in the fifth spot. Rudiger took care of her opponent 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 The Falcons swept Ripon in doubles. At No. 1, Ostrowski and Rudiger won 8-1. Anderson and Wolff won 8-1 in the second spot. Jenna Rice and Brittney Bach won 6-1. The Falcons, now 7-2 overall and 1-2 in the WIAC, will host UW-Eau Claire in a WIAC match Wednesday. | Falcons Top Stout, 5-4, in WIAC Match
Sept. 26, 2008 The Falcon tennis team beat UW-Stout, 5-4, on Friday in a WIAC match. It was the first WIAC win of the season for the Falcons. UWRF picked up four of its five points in singles play. Cassie Wood won at No. 2, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. Wood is now 4-2 in singles action. At No. 4, Lindsay Gillman won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 and she is now 3-3 in singles play. Brittany Bonine won at No. 5, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 to improve to 4-1 in singles play. Stacia Kozel picked up the final point with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 6. She is a perfect 3-0 in singles play. The No. 3 doubles team of Wood and Bonine took an 8-5 win. It was the first time this year that Wood and Bonine played together in doubles. The Falcons, now 5-2 overall and 1-2 in the WIAC, will play two more matches on Saturday. The Falcons face Hamline at 9 a.m., and Ripon at 2 p.m. |

| Falcons Split in Two Saturday Matches
Sept. 20, 2008 The Falcon tennis team split in two matches on Saturday in Stevens Point. The Falcons lost a WIAC match to UW-Stevens Point, 6-3, but came back later in the day to beat Concordia, 5-4. The Falcons picked up two singles and one doubles point against UWSP. Brittany Bonine earned a come back win at No. 5 singles, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 and Mindy Rudiger won at No. 6, 6-2, 6-3. The Falcon No. 3 doubles team of Bonine and Naomi Wolff won, 8-6. Against Concordia the Falcons earned three singles points and two in doubles. Rudiger won at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-2, Britney Brouwer won at No. 5, 6-0, 6-0 and Jenna Rice won at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0. Bonine and Wolff combined for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles and Stacia Kozel and Lindsay Gillman won at No. 3, 8-1. The Falcons, now 4-2 overall and 0-2 in the WIAC, will next host Stout in a WIAC match on Friday at 3:30 p.m. |

| Falcons Open WIAC Season With 8-1 Loss at Oshkosh
Sept. 19, 2008 The Falcon tennis team opened its WIAC season with an 8-1 loss at UW-Oshkosh on Friday afternoon. Cassie Wood, playing at No. 2 singles, was the only Falcon to pick up a point. She beat UWO's Jenna Abott, 6-2, 6-0. Wood is now 4-1 in singles play this season. The Falcons, now 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the WIAC, play two matches on Saturday. They are at Stevens Point in a WIAC match that starts at 10 a.m. At 12:30 p.m., the Falcons play Concordia, also in Stevens Point. |

| Falcons Pick Up Two 5-4 Wins; Start Season 3-0 Sept. 6, 2008 The Falcon tennis team picked up two 5-4 wins on Saturday and have started the 2008 season with a perfect 3-0 record. The Falcons topped Lawrence in the morning and came back in the afternoon to beat Edgewood. The Falcons used their strength in singles play to beat Lawrence. UWRF picked up four wins in singles and one win in doubles. Cassie Wood, playing at No. 2, won 6-2, 6-3 and Lindsay Gillman, playing at No. 3, came back from a first set loss to win, 0-6, 6-2, 10-4. Brittany Bonine won at No. 5 in another comeback win, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 and Britney Bouwer won at No. 6, 6-3, 6-2. The No. 3 doubles team of Naomi Wolff and Bonine won 8-4. Against Edgewood, Kathryne Ostrowski won at No. 1, 6-3, 6-3. Wood picked up another win at No. 2, 6-2, 6-1. Stacia Kozel picked up a third point at No. 4 with a 6-4, 6-3 win. Wolff gave the Falcons their fourth singles point wiht a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6. The No. 3 doubles team of Bonine and Gillman won 8-2. | Tennis Opens Season With 6-3 Win
Sept. 5, 2008 The Falcon tennis team opened its 2008 season with a 6-3 win at St. Norbert on Friday night. UWRF won four of six singles matches and two of three in doubles. In singles, Kathryne Ostrowski played a little extra and won, 7-6 (7-1) and 6-4 at No. 1. Lindsay Gillman won at No. 4, 6-2, 6-3; Brittany Bonine won at No. 5, 6-1, 6-3 and Stacia Kozul won at No. 6, 6-4, 6-1. In doubles the No. 2 team of Kozel and Cassie Wood won, 9-6, and the No. 3 team of Bonine and Gillman won, 8-2. The Falcons play at Lawrence at 9 a.m., on Saturday. They then play Edgewood at Edgewood at 1 p.m., in Appleton. |
