ReTelling, ReWriting and ReMixing
Sponsored by the UW-System LTDC (Learning Technology Development Council)
Digital storytelling is a multimodal approach to meaningful narrative from many perspectives. Layered with rich and evocative imagery, audio and video, it is often a transformative experience for both the storyteller and the recipient.
Why consider this Digital Storytelling project?
- Familiarize yourself with the "new literacies" and a creative palette of multi-media tools
- Honor the creative process and authentic voice within your subject area, discipline and pedagogy
- Collaborate in reflecting on your research and outreach projects
- Highlight the good things happening within your college or area of study
How do I get involved in this faculty development opportunity?
A one-hour brown bag informational seminar will be held on Friday, February, 20th, 2009. If interested in attending, R.S.V.P by: February 12th to mary.wright@uwrf.edu or karen.ryan@uwrf.edu
All are invited to this informational session on digital storytelling in higher education. This faculty development opportunity will provide examples of how digital storytelling is used throughout higher education across many disciplines. It will also further describe our timeline and deadlines for submitting concepts for consideration.

Saturday, April 25 - The six selected faculty members will attend a two hour mandatory story circle to share and refine story concepts prior to participating in a three- day digital storytelling workshop where the actual production will take place.
NOTE: Workshop will take place on UWRF campus in the Educational Technology Center. Dates TBA (considering the group's availability during summer, 2009). Participants will come to the summer workshop prepared with refined stories, and "shoe box" artifacts: photos, objects, etc, to scan into digital form. During the three -day workshop, we will scan in photos and artifacts, refine the narrative, develop a storyboard, and mix the audio/narrative track.
As one of the successful elements of digital storytelling is to refine and organize the narrative, we will work toward keeping the digital stories under five minutes long for maximum impact.
All participants will walk away from this workshop with:
- Ideas for incorporating digital storytelling within your research and pedagogy.
- A deepened understanding of the "new literacies" and their place in higher education.
- A certificate of participation in the 1st UWRF Digital Storytelling Workshop.
- A complete digital storytelling on CD/DVD.
We hope to see you at the brown bag informational session on Friday, February 20th!
