Presentations and Professional Conferences
Support faculty and academic staff to participate in professional conferences, presentations, exhibits and performances.
- Faculty and Instructional Academic Staff Professional Development
- The purpose of this program is to support faculty and teaching academic staff to participate in professional conferences, presentations, exhibits and performances.
- Academic Staff Professional Development
- The purpose of this program is to support academic staff.
- Robert P. Knowles International Education Grant
- Priority will be given to professional presentations at international conferences. In addition, to make award amounts each year meaningful, greater consideration will be given to applicants who have not recently received funding.
Professional Development
Minimize the fiscal implications to the participant, thereby encouraging rather than discouraging participation in the program to maintain academic excellence.
- Retraining & Renewal Grant Program
- The Retraining & Renewal Grant Program is dedicated to the maintenance of academic excellence. In keeping with the conditions and intent of the legislation that supports this program, "the purpose of this comprehensive program is to increase the flexibility and effective use of existing faculty personnel in the University of Wisconsin System."
Teaching Development
Support academic staff to further teaching skills through courses and experiences.
- Online Teaching Institute (OTI)
- A semester long program that provides individual support to faculty members who are either developing a new course or redesigning an existing course for online delivery. Faculty members meet regularly with an instructional designer to collaborate on the design and development of their course. In addition, participants meet with other colleagues in a group setting to share their work and receive feedback. Online activities are also planned to provide faculty members with the experience of participating in an online course.
- Online Teaching Foundations (OTF)
- A self-guided online course that focuses on concepts in developing online content to engage learners with quality online assessment design practice and teaching methods.
- Faculty College
- Participants members will be selected for a four-day Faculty Development experience focused on teaching and learning.
- Evidence Based Teaching Fellow (EBTF)
- Up to five individuals will be chosen to work together and with the EBTF Coordinator to investigate an issue of particular interest or concern with respect to teaching and learning. Each participant will choose their own area to investigate, with guidance and support from the coordinator. Examples might include: classroom climate, information literacy, online teaching, writing assignments, flipped classrooms, etc. Meetings will begin in October and run through May.
- Wisconsin Teaching Fellow and Scholar (WTF/S)
- Two participants represent UWRF in the UW-System program. Each participant will complete a teaching and learning project during the academic year.
Research and Creative Activity
Encourages faculty and academic staff reseach and creative activites to enhance professional development.
- Sabbaticals
- The purpose of the Faculty Sabbatical program is to enable recipients to be engaged in intensive study in order to become more effective teachers and scholars and to enhance their service to the University (https://www.wisconsin.edu/uw-policies/uw-system-administrative-policies/the-faculty-sabbatical-program/). The Sabbatical program should also be understood as recognition of past and continuing academic contributions of the recipients in keeping with the Select Mission of UWRF.
- Faculty Research Grant
- Proposals are welcome from all colleges and disciplines covering any area of research or professional endeavor, including research about teaching or pedagogical methods
- Manley Olson Instructional Academic Staff Professional Development Award
- This program provides resources to adjuncts in the early stages of their careers that support their professional development.
