UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN River Falls
Oct. 24, 2024 - The University of Wisconsin-River Falls will present a screening of “Closure: The Dismantling of Wisconsin's Colleges” created by Ken Brosky on Friday, Nov. 1, as part of the Contemporary Political Issues Roundtable Series.
The free public event is set for 2 p.m. in the Kinnickinnic Theater in the University Center, 501 Wild Rose Ave., River Falls.
The 90-minute film documents the closures and pending closures of some of Wisconsin’s two-year colleges and questions the state’s longstanding commitment to higher education. It also notes challenges faced by Wisconsin’s public institutions. The screening will be followed by a discussion led by Brosky, a Milwaukee author, filmmaker and UW-Whitewater faculty member.
Brosky was inspired to document the shutdown of those colleges after the announcement that UW-Milwaukee at Waukesha is scheduled for closure in spring 2025. Armed with a camera and backed by a small Kickstarter project, he set out to capture closure-related events across Wisconsin, highlighting the impact on students, staff and communities.
