As a Cash & Lending intern, my role was to provide processing and customer service support for standardized and manual operations processes. In my role I review, verify, and record data into technology systems supporting department processes. In addition, my role research’s and responds to inquiries from other teams within operations, other RBC business units, external customers, and industry participants.
My goals that I wanted to accomplish by the end of my internship was to improve my time management and problem solving skills in a business work environment. I wanted to learn and understand the main systems used in my position and be able to complete my work to the best of my ability. I wanted to continue to develop a growth mindset and keep learning new skills, systems, and anything else that will be helpful to me in the future. Throughout this internship I wanted to gain more knowledge about the business and the departments within the company. I also wanted to improve my communication skills in a real work environment and continue to grow my network.
This internship experience definitely helped me to confirm my career choice. Going into this internship I did not have a very good idea about what I wanted to do in the future. I really enjoyed my experience working in the operations department and would love to do this for my future career.
My advice to my fellow students is to meet and talk to as many people as you can and to network and learn more about their positions. I learned in my internship that almost every employee would love to set up a time to talk to you and share their experiences. My other piece of advice is to be adaptable in these new times. My internship experience was completely virtual and it took me a little time at the beginning to adjust because it was originally supposed to be face to face.
