VMware is a virtualization and cloud computing software provider based in Palo Alto, CA. Founded in 1998, VMware is a subsidiary of Dell Technologies. VMware has over 25,000 employees worldwide and provides software to 99% of Fortune 1000 companies.
As a Business Analyst Intern, my role was to define the new software creation process for VMware’s product managers on the End User Computing team. I met individually with 40+ key team members to define this process and develop a fully functional internal guide. I also addressed provisioning issues, cleaned up our customer’s testing environments, and worked to resolve issues with VMware’s software bundles.
My goals and learning outcomes at VMware were met above my expectations. I was able to meet hundreds of new people and work on five completely different business operations projects. Being able to experience the business side of a tech company was extremely beneficial for me as most of my experience is in computer science.
This experience has helped me choose where I want to work and where I fit best into a company. Going into this internship, I had a background in IT and I wasn’t sure whether I would enjoy working in business operations. I now know that I’d like to explore opportunities with a focus of software product management.
For any students considering an internship, please do. I’d recommend finding one during your sophomore/junior year and beginning your search early in the Fall. I wish I would‘ve known earlier in my career to pursue an internship at another company.
