Thomson Reuters is a multinational mass media and information company based out of Toronto, Canada. With 13 other offices throughout the United States, Thomson Reuters offer a variety of services such as law, tax, compliance, government, and media.
As a Inside Sales intern, I was responsible for working toward a monthly sales quota, which would ultimately come from hitting the daily call metrics. In addition, my responsibilities included attending sales coaching sessions with a dedicated sales coach and an appointed mentor to further help with getting better at selling. Also, I attended scheduled intern events, such as executive speakers and socials. All of which created a positive environment of growth for young business professionals aspiring to one day work in a corporate setting such as Thomson Reuters.
This 12-week internship has given me the corporate experience that I much needed. Along the way, I was able to be more comfortable and confident in my abilities as I conversed with clients and management. This whole experience has also reinforced the importance of communication on a daily basis as there is an expectation that everyone would work together to achieve our goals.
This experience has confirmed that it is okay to not rush to get a full-time position. The most important in this whole process is finding a career that you love doing and I am going to continue to search for what I love doing.
My advice to students is to do multiple internships. This gives you the opportunity to figure out what you want to do before you actually get to a full-time position. Gaining that experience helps tremendously as you go onto looking for other opportunities that may come in the future.
