Sustainability Curriculum

At the University of Wisconsin River Falls, strategic curriculum integration on sustainability is occurring campus-wide through the ongoing, faculty-led initiative that we call the Kinnickinnic Project, in honor of the "outstanding resource water" and Class 1 trout stream that winds through our campus and the River Falls community.   Our curriculum infusion and development project, now in its fifth successful year, provides community for our members; deepens awareness of the ways in which sustainability can be integrated into all academic disciplines; and fosters intellectually stimulating dialogue around local, national, and global sustainability issues among our colleagues and students.  From the genesis of our project in 2011, when two faculty members attended the AASHE Sustainability Curriculum leadership Workshop at Emory University in Atlanta and returned to start a similar annual workshop at UWRF, we have grown our membership of Sustainability Faculty Fellows to thirty-nine, all of whom, after participating in the workshop, have enacted curricular change within at least one of his or her courses.

Sustainability Ethics

Students will gain a grounding in the interrelated nature of social, economic, and environmental issues, as related to views of interdependence, resource allocation, and environmental justice.

Sustainability Praxis

Students will be able to analyze, articulate, and envision solutions to problems of sustainability, integrating knowledge data across disciplinary boundaries.

Global Citizenship

Students will internalize an understanding of the consequences of their social, economic, and environmental choices, and the possibilities for taking action on the personal and public levels.
