Jump Start

Jump Start your Falcon journey by signing up for UWRF’s early arrival program. Jump Start offers activities focused on:

  • Transition to college
  • Campus Resources

  • Campus familiarity

  • A community with other new-to-UWRF students

Jump Start will include small group, inter-group, and large group activities. An abbreviated itinerary can be found below.

Disability Resource Center

  • The Disability Resource Center pathway of the Jump Start Program is designed specifically for students who identify as having a disability.  This pathway helps first-year students get connected to the disability community at UWRF.  
  • Participants are given the opportunity to engage with their fellow peers to learn more about disability identity, pride, and disability culture on the River Falls campus.  
  • We provide you with an opportunity to start building your connection with peer mentors, current students, the Disability Resource Center Staff.  
  • Participants will learn about how to use academic accommodations at the college level, navigate the transition process, and access college resources.  
  • Students participating in this program are required to be registered for academic accommodations through the Disability Resource Center (DRC).  
  • Eligibility for consideration in this pathway is as follows:
    • Complete the New Student Application
    • Complete an intake appointment with DRC staff
    • Submit documentation to support your need for accommodations

TRIO Student Support Services

  • The TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) pathway is designed for students who may be eligible for the TRIO SSS program: first-generation, students from limited income families, and students with documented disabilities. Check the SSS webpage for more information.
  • During Jump Start, students in the SSS pathway will get to meet other new students, learn about how SSS supports students to maximize their college experience, and engage with staff to build academic successs skills.
  • Participants will get to know SSS academic coaches who support SSS scholars throughout their entire time at UWRF.
  • Participants get to meet Peer Mentors who support a strong transition to UWRF and offer community engagement throughout the year

Aspire

  • The Aspire pathway is designed for students of color, students from limited income families, or who are first-generation students.
  • We provide you with an opportunity to start building your connection with peer mentors, campus partners, and other new students.
  • Participants will get to explore tools for self-advocacy, leadership, and scholarly success.
  • You will build a strong connection to the Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging office.

FAQ

This program is for first-year students and new transfer students. 

New students who are communting are welcome to participate in this program. Housing will not be provided for commuting students, but temporary parking passes will be provided.

No. Students who already have a housing contract with Residence Life will not need to pay extra.

You will receive an email in July informing if you are accepted to are added to the waitlist.

There is no cost to attend Jump Start.

Please see the schedule overview on the Jump Start website. You will receive more schedule details the week before you arrive.

You will move in on Monday, August 26th. Jump Start participants do not need to schedule a move-in time.

Yes, you will need to attend all Jump Start academic sessions. Jump Start events are designed to give you a comprehensive introduction to UWRF. There are optional evening social activities.

Yes – A few evenings during the program will have optional social events. In the past these activities have included game nights, movie nights, and bowling.

You will receive your pathway designation with your acceptance email in July.
